Who is qualified to serve God? Is it those with a special calling, such as pastors and evangelists? Or is it those who can recite the Bible fluently, possess abundant knowledge, eloquence, and engage in noble professions? However, before answering this question, perhaps we should first look at what the Bible says.

I believe that "love" is a prerequisite for being a servant of God. "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, I gain nothing." (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) Regardless of how great one's gifts and abilities are, without "love," everything done is merely for self-glory rather than allowing others to experience God's love. True servants of God love the Lord, love others, understand self-love, and care for all of God's creation. They love not only the lovable but also the unloved!

God's servants act in faith. "And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him." (Hebrews 11:6) "Faith" is the foundation of the relationship between servant and master, it is the motivation and basis for serving. In challenging environments, faith is indispensable, otherwise, one may feel powerless and ineffective in serving. God's servants seek greater faith to fulfill God's will. It's not about our abilities and talents, but about the faith God gives us, because "All things are possible for one who believes." (Mark 9:23)

In a world full of competition, God's servants may unintentionally fall into the vortex of comparison. People often compare the scale of ministries, financial strength, and popularity, using these as worldly standards. However, as servants of God, we should emulate the humility of Christ, with the mind of Christ. (Philippians 2:5-11) We should serve the Lord with humility, not for self-glory. Humility is not only a virtue of servants but also their hallmark. We should always be aware of our inadequacies but not use them as an excuse to reject opportunities for service.

"This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful." (1 Corinthians 4:1-2) "Faithfulness" is a basic expectation for servants, just as people expect it from any other servant. Similarly, as servants of God, being called "good and faithful servant" by the Lord (Matthew 25:21) is the highest praise. Faithful servants are not only concerned about how much they have done or achieved. What God values is whether the servant is equally dedicated and faithful in the smallest matters. As long as one can be faithful and diligent in everything, God will surely be pleased and will surely commend! (Luke 16:10-12)

In the face of a rapidly changing era, God's servants need to possess both "wisdom and understanding" (James 3:13), allowing wisdom from above to help them discern right from wrong, good from evil, and make appropriate judgments in the present circumstances, choosing God's path and avoiding the world's temptations. Although truth is eternal, the ways of conveying and practicing truth are constantly changing. As servants of God, being able to keep pace with the times and effectively utilize today's tools and technology to fulfill the mission is also an important lesson.

Who is qualified to serve God? In fact, every believer can be a servant of God, but there are certain requirements. These requirements are more about the quality of life than possessing particular skills. When we come to serve the Lord, what we should think about is not what kind of person we want to become but what kind of person God wants us to become. May we all set our hearts to become servants who please the Lord, carefully examine the condition of our lives, and prepare ourselves well to serve according to God's will.
